Children’s Counselling

Navigating challenges in life can be very stressful for children and just as adults they may need some support. Children counselling will help them to cope with their emotions, understand themselves, promote new ways of relating and build resilience. The use of a sensitive and less intrusive approach, such as Play Therapy, favour the creation of a safe space that allow children to be who they are, to explore their feelings and make sense of the world, helping to foster emotional wellbeing.

Through play, children can express emotions, resolve conflicts, develop coping strategies, and gain a sense of control over their reality. Play enables children to communicate their thoughts, explore possibilities, and experience autonomy in a supportive setting.

Counselling can help children to organise and express their feelings and experiences in a safe relationship, foster self-regulation, autonomy, and decision-making skills, develop social skills for them to socialise more effectively. Counselling can help to address and manage many concerns like anxiety, depression, stress, grief and loss, bullying, life changes…

By giving credit for their effort, for what they know and do helps to build self-esteem. Allowing them to do their own way, identifying their strengths and uniqueness and validating their emotions provides an opportunity for them to create their own resources and encourage to take responsibility.

Working together with parents/caregivers is essential for the therapeutic process.  They have a valuable knowledge. Parents/Caregivers are the experts on their child and paly a very important part in their lives as central attachment figures.

A Counsellor can work as a facilitator to help parents to understand what their children are communicating, encouraging to build the connection with the child by feeling and seeing through the child eyes. Counsellors help strengthen the parent-child bond.
